Vivian Girls | Colors
Since 2016, I have been painting these 'abstract' portraits of women, mostly influenced by Francis Bacon and Marlene Dumas, along with abstract elements from Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miró.
I call them 'Vivian Girls'. The name 'Vivian' is derived from the celebrated outsider artist Henry Darger's 'In the Realm of the Unreal' (The story of the Vivian Girls). Darger’s dramatic work evokes deep feelings that I aim to convey in my own.
On this page, you'll find a small sample of the series, spanning from 2016 to 2021.
